
Request a community license
At ngrok, we believe in supporting the open source ecosystem and the community at large by empowering those who contribute to it. We offer licenses free of charge to leaders of open source projects, active community contributors and non-profits who meet our eligibility criteria. The community license initiative is part of our commitment to give back to the communities we benefit from and participate in.
What we offer
- Paid ngrok licenses for individuals and non-profits, valid for a year.
- Licenses are renewable indefinitely upon request, provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.
- 🆕 Early access to new features and offerings, including updates to ngrok.ai.
What we ask
- The project must add a visible badge with a link to ngrok from their website or GitHub repository upon acceptance.
What makes a project eligible
- CLI for Open Source: Meets the Open Source definition; CLI for Non Profit: Must be a legal non-profit.
- At least three months of commits with new, active commits in the last 1 month (static doc updates like
README,LICENSE, and similar do not count). - Must not be intended for illegal activity or funded by commercial companies or organizations.
- The individual must be a maintainer of the project or stakeholder of the non-profit in the last 3 months and have an ngrok account under their own email.
Timeline & Important Dates
- Applications will open quarterly on the following dates, with respective deadlines as follows:
- January 5, 2026 - February 2, 2026
- April 6, 2026 - May 11, 2026
- July 6, 2026 - August 3, 2026
- October 5, 2026 - November 2, 2026
- The selection process is as below:
- Application Form > 1:1 with the Developer Relations Team > Onboarding 🎉 > License Granted
